Criteria for Accepting a Book for Review
Relevance to Transactional Analysis
The book can pertain to one or more fields of application in Transactional Analysis. However, it need not be limited to Transactional Analysis and may include books from complementary fields.
Contribution to Knowledge
The book must offer new insights, theories, or empirical data and/or build upon or challenge existing literature.
Clarity and Accessibility
The content should be well-written, ensuring that complex concepts are explained clearly and are easy to understand. The chapters and sections must be coherent and aligned with the book’s objectives.
Author’s Expertise
Assess the author’s credibility, background, and expertise in the subject matter.
Guidelines for Writing a Book Review

Provide a brief overview of the book’s title, author(s), publication date, and publisher.
State the main purpose or objective of the book.
Mention the relevance of the book to the field of Transactional Analysis and the SAJTA readers.
2. Summary
Summarize the key content and main arguments or themes of the book.
Highlight significant chapters or sections.
3. Critical Evaluation
Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the book.
Discuss the author’s approach, methodology, and the quality of evidence presented.
Evaluate the clarity, organization, and readability of the book.
Consider the book’s innovativeness and contribution.
4. Contextualization
Place the book within the broader context of existing literature.
Compare and contrast it with other works on the same topic.
5. Practical Implications
Discuss the practical applications of the book’s content for Transactional Analysis and allied field professionals.
Highlight any actionable recommendations or insights.
6. Conclusion
Provide a summary of your overall impression of the book.
State whether you would recommend it to others and why.
